Saudi VAT number checker
Saudi ArabiaPaste the number as it appears on the invoice and see at once whether the format holds and what it says.
The check runs in your browser; the number is never sent anywhere.
This checks the format only. Whether the number is actually registered, and to whom, is something only ZATCA can tell you.
Check registration with ZATCA →How the number is built
Fifteen digits, each group meaning something. Knowing the structure catches most errors without any lookup.
1 digit — country
Always 3 for GCC states, Saudi Arabia among them. A number not starting with 3 is not a Saudi VAT number.
8 digits — serial
The taxpayer’s serial number with the authority.
1 digit — check
Catches copying errors. Its algorithm is unpublished, so no third-party tool can verify it.
3 digits — branch
000 is the head office; anything else denotes a branch or subsidiary.
2 digits — tax type
03 is VAT — which is why these numbers start and end with 3.
When you need it
- Checking an invoice from a new supplier before approving it
- Confirming you copied the whole number into your invoicing system
- Telling a VAT number apart from a commercial registration number
- Seeing whether a number is a head office or a branch
Common questions
What is the Saudi VAT number?
A fifteen-digit identifier issued by ZATCA to every VAT-registered taxpayer. It must appear on a tax invoice.
Does this verify registration?
No. It checks the format and explains the structure. Whether a number is registered, and to whom, only ZATCA can say — the link is on this page.
Why is the check digit not verified?
Its algorithm is unpublished. Any tool claiming to validate it is guessing. The published structure is enough to catch copying errors in practice.
How does it differ from a commercial registration?
A CR comes from the Ministry of Commerce, ten digits often starting 1 or 7. The tax number comes from ZATCA, fifteen digits starting 3. Sending one instead of the other is a common mistake.
Is the number sent anywhere?
No. The whole check runs in your browser.
This checks the format against the published structure. It does not verify registration or ownership. For official verification use ZATCA’s own service.
Checking supplier numbers by hand?
If your team reviews incoming invoices one at a time, that is work the system can do. We connect e-invoicing to ZATCA’s requirements and automate validation and reconciliation.
